About the Author :1947 born Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho was a playwright, theatre director, and popular songwriter, worked as an art director, as a journalist and as a television playwright before pursuing his career as an author. He has since written for a large number of Brazilian and international publications as well.In 1986 Paulo Coelho walked along the Road of Santiago, an ancient Spanish pilgrimage and later described this experience in The Pilgrimage, published in 1987. The following year, with his second book The Alchemist, which eventually became number one bestseller in 18 countries, Paulo Coelho became one of the most widely read contemporary authors in the world.
